Zherdevka district is situated in the south of Tambov region. It borders Uvarovo, Tokarevka, Rzhaksa and Sampur districts of the region. The district center is Zherdevka town though it was not always like this. Back in the days the main populated area of Zherdevka district was Chibizovka village. They say, the village got its name from the peewit because the settlement was formed in the swampy area inhabited by these birds. Today’s district center, Zherdevka, was formed in 1954 out of Chibizovka, a settlement nearby the sugar factory and a settlement of Zherdevka station. The district is one of the richest breadbaskets of Tambov region. Buckwheat, sugar-beet, barley, wheat, corn, millet, sunflowers grow in the area.
The main tourist attractions of Zherdevka district are the waterfall at the Savala river and Savior Transfiguration Church in Demian Bedny village.
